Astrata was incorporated in 2021 after its founders had spent more than a decade working to develop and deliver AI-driven solutions to real-world healthcare problems.

Our mission now is simple. We want to transform the way the industry measures and improves healthcare quality, helping our customers achieve value-based care across all of their populations.

Our History

Rebecca Crowley Jacobson’s research group at the University of Pittsburgh builds one of the first clinical NLP systems. Their open-source NLP products were used by clinical researchers around the world.

UPMC Enterprises hires Rebecca, Girish, and other members of the research team. The team explores opportunities to apply their NLP technology to solve healthcare problems for both payers and providers.

The team identifies chart abstraction for quality as a problem they can solve with NLP. They develop Chart Review with UPMC Health Plan creating the foundation for UPMC Health Plan’s prospective HEDIS® review program.

The first external customer is signed up for Chart Review.

Astrata is spun out of UPMC Enterprises as an independent company with the mission to impact how healthcare quality is measured and improved.

eMeasure, Astrata’s 2nd product is released as the first NCQA-certified Digital Measurement HEDIS® engine using FHIR and CQL natively.

Quality Navigator, Astrata’s 3rd product is released to help quality teams make their member and patient outreach efforts more effective.

Chart Review 2.0 launched with new functionality to drive higher efficiencies.
